During my time in Corporate America, my path wove through many helping disciplines like Knowledge, Project and Change Management as well as Lean/continuous improvement, talent programs and leadership. There are several things that made the work engaging for me over so many years. Many of these disciplines required coaching skills and resulted in the power of the "ah-ha"—those lightbulb moments. Watching what was previously hidden be brought into the light were powerful moments. You know what happens when you go from sensing a problem to clearly seeing and understanding a problem? Choices. Movement. Magic.
Another thing that made the work engaging was that at the heart of these disciplines was respect for people. Helping people recognize their competencies, creativity and wholeness, resulted in leaders, individuals and teams getting out of their own way and going further and faster than they even planned.
Those philosophies and others guide me as I coach and consult today.
